| Come
and see Flat Holm! Just 5 miles from Penarth
and in sight from Rock House, the tiny Island of
Flat Holm is a different world with a wealth of
history and wildlife. You will be amazed at how
much there is to discover. A short day visit to Flat
Holm will give you 3 hours on the Island, where a
guided walk will ensure you see the many sights
and hear some of the Islands many stories.
There will be a chance to relax and enjoy the
Islands atmosphere with a cup of tea or
coffee, and to visit our shop which sells a small
range of sweets and souvenirs.
Visits run from
April to October and a programme is available.
Booking in advance is usually essential. All
trips depart from the Harbour on Barry Island
aboard the Lewis Alexander and the
crossing takes about 30 minutes. Parking is
available at the Project Office nearby.
Departure times
are chosen to suit the time of high tide which
changes every day so it is essential to contact
the Project Office when planning a trip (see
below).
Staying on Flat Holm
Educational and
working groups can stay at the Farmhouse on Flat
Holm where there is dormitory accommodation for
up to 24 people. Kitchen and dining facilities
are available and groups will usually be
self-catering.
Flat Holm offers a
unique learning experience for people of all
ages, discovering and interacting with the
Islands geography, history and wildlife and
a wide range of educational activities have been
developed for school groups. Classroom facilities
are also available.
For working groups
there are always a wide range of practical
conservation tasks to get involved with.
